THE LIBERAL-NDP COALITION: A BETTER DEAL FOR BC

THE LIBERAL-NDP COALITION: A BETTER DEAL FOR BC

A coalition government between Liberals and New Democrats means a better deal for BC, a government more responsive to BC, and a government willing to listen to BC.

Conservatives are trying to divide British Columbians from Canada and are undermining our national unity so that they can maintain power.

The facts are:

·         In the last election, more people in BC voted for Liberals and the NDP combined than voted for the Conservatives.

·         The Liberals and the NDP were the only two parties in the last election who had a BC platform. The Conservatives ignored BC completely.  In 2006 they had a platform here and then proceeded to break almost all of their promises!

·         British Columbians care about the environment, and want Canada to lead the world on this issue.  Only a Liberal-NDP coalition government will fight climate change and make the environment a priority.

·         The Liberal record in British Columbia speaks for itself.  We were proud to fight to bring the Olympics to BC, to deliver funding for the Canada Line, the Pacific Gateway, the new Vancouver Convention Centre, the Kelowna Accord, and moving the Canadian Tourism Commission to BC.  The Conservatives are doing nothing for BC.

·         Stephen Harper says he is against two parties forming a coalition and then passing bills with the support of the Bloc.  However, he himself formed a coalition between Reformers and Progressive Conservatives and then passed two budgets with the support of the Bloc!  He wrote the playbook he is now calling unholy!

·         In 2004, when he was Opposition Leader, Stephen Harper himself wrote to the Governor General a joint letter with the NDP and the Bloc asking for power without an election.  Today he calls that exact same thing undemocratic?  It was his idea … and with the same partners, Mr. Layton and Mr. Duceppe.

·         Prime Minister Harper wants another election – but Canadians don’t. Canadians want Parliament to work.  They want MPs to act like adults and work together.  The Liberals and NDP have agreed to put their differences aside and work together.  If Harper had done the same, we wouldn’t be in this situation.

·         Now it is time to put Canada and our economy first.  A Liberal-NDP coalition will fight for BC’s forestry workers, something Harper refuses to do.  We’ll provide economic stimulus, something Harper refuses to do.  We’ll help people working in manufacturing, people concerned about their homes, and their jobs.  We’re willing to work together to help Canadians.  Harper is only willing to divide Canadians to help himself.

    Sir
I had the opportunity to meet you on December 3rd at the Meet and Greet for Bob Rae. It was wonderful to meet you, unfortunately we did not have much of a chance to chat.
I am fully supportive of the coalition between the Liberal and the NDP. I believe such as coalition would better serve Canadians than the alternative we currently have.
Here is just one more idea. It is reported that Stephen Harper will be seeking prorogation from our G.G. this morning at 09:30. I really resent this request. I believe this is the first time in Canadian Poilitical History that a Prime Minister would ask for such a thing rather than face a non-confidence motion. WHAT A PRECEDENT this will set. Any future P.M., fearful of his position, will now have the tools to prorogue rather than face a non-confidence motion.
An interesting move could be made by the Liberal Party even before this meeting with th PM and the G.G. The Liberal Caucus could vote to remove Mr. Dion (whom I have supported) as Liberal leader effective immediately and replaced by Ralph Goodale. He was well respected as Finance Minister and I believe he would be a great tool in these times of economic uncertainty. I also believe that Canadians would have more respect for this coalition with Mr. Goodale at the helm. This would remove the argument that Mr. Dion is seeking to be PM at all costs (even at the cost at Canadian unity if we are to beleive Mr. Harper.

    Just a thought.

Bless you, Larry! This senior actress has returned from beautiful BC to home hood of Toronto, and Lord, I LOVE reading your cogent and totally truthful words about the Progressive Coalition.

I am CHUFFED, truly THRILLED! at those nifty UVic students who initiated this Coalition in October. At LAST, young Canadians are getting involved and excited about the potential of what government CAN do when folks drop the cynical “partisan party garbage” and start working for UNITY!

Larry, if you have ANY influence with Mr. Ignatieff, would you PLEASE make him get off the bloody fence and COMMIT to the Coalition NOW! His posturing on this area is so negative.

We Canadians CAN AGREE! Personal aggrandizement is the pits, we’ve seen too much of it with Harper’s contingent. Let’s get EVERYONE ON BOARD TO HONOURABLY REPRESENT THE MAJORITY OF CANADIANS.

And by the way, I am PRAYING that BC residents will set a benchmark in May by voting in favour of PROPORTIONAL REPRESENTATION. Wow, do we desperately need that!

The warmest of wishes to you, Larry. I so enjoyed working with your civic party in Vancouver. You also helped us get PAL built. I wish you’d run for PM. Or wait a sec: how about Mary Walsh? Now there’s a wicked babe who wouldn’t let any nonsense get by her during Question Period.

    The merriest of Christmases, Senor.

Bless you, Larry! And how apt that the Progressive Coalition was created by bright youngsters from your neck of the woods!

If you have any influence with Mr. Ignatieff, can you possibly persuade him to climb off the fence and commit fully to the Coalition? We need unified action between the NDP and Liberals: politics as usual does not touch anyone’s heart.

I’m praying for the Coalition. I’m also praying that BC will lead this country in voting for Proportional Representation next May.

Thank you for all you accomplished as Vancouver’s Mayor, Larry. You really broke new ground in so many areas, including the Performing Arts Lodge.

    The merriest of Christmases, Sir.

Pam Hyatt, senior actress, now in Toronto.
